Cruises & Vacations- Plan Ahead for International Medical Transport Services In Case of Emergency

After the recent traumatic event of the Costa Concordia cruise ship capsizing in Italy, cruise ship travel has been given second thought by some. With around 4,200 passengers aboard the Costa Concordia, the wreck of the cruise liner caused an escalated emergency and distress when it hit a reef off Giglio, Italy.
During the agonizing event, thousands of travelers were reluctantly rescued or able to reach land by safety boat or by swimming, while 32 passengers remain missing or confirmed dead. When traumatic events such as this occur, many times air medical services are needed to help transport patients who need immediate medical transportation. Planning for the Unexpected: Air Medical Transportation FAQs

When an emergency arises, arranging air medical transportation and planning for it can be very daunting. A majority of patients and families that need flying medical services have never had to plan for this type of trip before. Air Critical Care understands this and is available to help make the process less stressful for you and your loved one. Our transport coordinators will arrange the entire air ambulance booking process for you. Here we have listed some frequently asked air medical transportation questions that can help you plan should the unexpected happen. For more information on Air Ambulance Services, please visit: http://aircriticalcare.com/faqs.

What is an air ambulance?
An air ambulance is a business class aircraft that has been specially equipped with a FAA-approved medical stretcher, advanced life support equipment, medications and a highly trained medical staff equipped as a flying Intensive Care Unit. Some aircrafts can accommodate multiple patients on the same aircraft and others are equipped for bariatric patients.
Air Critical Care uses flying medical services and aircrafts that can provide the best level of care for the patient, and also meet the patient’s financial requirements and needs. These aircrafts include the Gulfstream III, Lear Jet 35A, and Cessna Citation Jet planes to fly our patients from one medical facility to another.

How many family members can fly with the patient?
Family members may travel without charge. The number of family members allowed is based on the aircraft, the patient’s health, and the length of the medical transport. Usually, Air Critical Care will allow 1 to 2 family members on board. If the patient is unstable or requires special equipment during flight, the flight team may deny accompanying passengers. This would be determined in advance of the transport and is very rare.

Can I download an air medical transportation brochure listing more information about your services?
Yes. Please visit our air medical transport services page. Click to download the ACC brochure at the bottom of the page.

Do I need to arrange ground ambulance service to get to the air ambulance at the airport?
Air Critical Care will handle all medical transportation from “bedside-to-beside.” There is no additional work or paperwork that you will need to fill out. Our goal is to make medical transportation easy, simple and efficient. Please just do what you can to make the best of what can be a very difficult time for some people. Our “personal touch” means we take care of everything for you, just like family.

Do you offer services that other companies don’t offer?
Yes, our goal is to provide as much support as we can. We have assisted families with help in finding appropriate facilities, selling or moving furniture or automobiles, locating home health care services, and the transporting of pets. We do what we can to help make the move as easy as possible for you and your family.

How fast can you get here?
Fast. Since we are a 24-hour operation, we can respond immediately to your request. It typically takes about one hour to call out a crew and have them prepare to depart. We then fly directly to the airport closest to the patient. Your flight coordinator will keep in constant communication with you during this time so you will know our precise arrival time.

How much luggage can I bring?
Luggage is limited due to the amount of equipment on board the aircraft. We normally limit luggage to a total of two medium size carry on pieces. Air Critical Care will be more than happy to assist you with shipping additional luggage and/or packages at your cost, if needed.
